Repairing Bikes

This is an idea for a kid who know or wants to know about repairing bikes. Be sure to ask for your parents permission before using this idea.

People use their bikes a lot, so when they break it can really mess their day up. Some people even rely on their bicycles on transportation, so it's a real pain in the butt when they go out. Repairing bikes can be big business if you know how to do it right.

If repairing bikes is a subject that you don't know much about, look online and read up on it. You'd be amazed about how much information you can get on fixing and repairing bikes. You'll want to go to a search engine such as google and type in something along the lines of "repairing bikes how to".

Once you feel you know enough about repairing bikes, then go to the store and buy some supplies. Some great supplies to buy would be Fix a Flat, flat tire kits, WD-40, tire linings, tire tubes, nuts, bolts, and a few wrenches if your dad or mom doesn't have any.

To start your business repairing bikes, you would first tell your friends. Tell them that you know about repairing bikes, and can do it for a fee. Tell them to tell their friends, and let the information spread by word. You can also tell your neighbors the same thing, and ask them to spread the word too! Making flyers would work well too, but only if they look well done. Ask your mom or dad to help you make them on the computer, and post it at local supermarkets and on poles. It's good to mention that the cost of repairing bikes depends on what's wrong with the bike. The amount of time that you advertise will directly affect how many customers you get.

Once people begin to call, set up a time for them to drop of their bike and begin working on it. The amount you charge on bike repairing depends on how long the bike repair will take, and how much money you have to spend on supplies. It's good to have quite a few flat tire kits, because a lot of the bikes that come in will be simply because of flat tires. If you try hard enough, you can really make bank with this business.

Picking up Dog Dung

Projected Profit: $300-$600 a month

This idea is for a kid looking to make extra money doing a job around the neighborhood. Be sure to ask your parents permission before you use this idea.

If picking up dog dung is gross to you, then it's probably gross to a lot of other people too. Since people don't like to do it themselves, you can do it for them! There's a lot of money to be made doing this.

You can go to the store and buy a Poop Scooper, so you don't have to pick them all up by hand. It doesn't take long to go around someone's yard. You would go door to door, and ask your neighbors if you can pick up there dog dung for a small fee each week.

If you were to get 15 customers and charge them $5-$10 a week, you would be getting an extra $300-$600 a month. That's just for picking up dung! Make sure you wear protective gloves though.

Making Money as a Tutor

Projected Profit: $200-$400 per month

This is for a kid who wants to help people, and make some extra cash on the side. Be sure to ask a parent for permission.

Are you talented in a certain area (skateboarding, math, science, piano, acting, drums, guitar, singing, etc). People will pay you to teach them these things. All you have to do is tell people that you will tutor them, and post up signs around the neighboorhood and at public places (stores, parks, malls, bulletin boards). Leave your name and number, and soon enough people will start calling.

You can have the people pay you hourly ($5-$10/hr), or pay you per visit ($10-$15 per visit). You would prepare lessons, and have them learn at a rate that is suitable for them.

If you were to get 5 customers at 2 hrs per week, you would make $200-$400 in a month.

Child Transportation

Projected Profit: $800 a month

This is for the stay-at-home moms who have a suburban, van, or other multi-passenger vehicle.

Parents are busy people. They have work and errands to run. Their kids often lose opportunities for extra-curricular activities and programs because of the tight schedule. If these children could find transportation to their sports activities, after school programs, and other extra-curricular activities, it would save the parents a whole lot of time and disappointment.

That's where you come in. With your multi-passenger vehicle, you could transport the children for a fee (much like a taxi). There would be a fixed rate, and your customers would be consistant. You'd have to build trust with the parents though. Try starting with parents you know, then expand your business to others with advertising and word of mouth.

To get unaquainted parents to trust you, you're going to have to provide amazing references. Provide past customers, and trusted people that know you well. Provide a list of these numbers, with names, e-mail addresses, etc. That way the new customers aren't left with only a few options, and can get a widespread opinion about you and your services.

If you were to charge $10 a kid, 4 days a week, that's $160 a kid per month. Say you have 5 kids, that's $800 extra dollars a month.

Making Money Mowing Lawns

This is targeted for the kid, but anybody can make money doing this. Get permission from your parents before starting this idea.

If you have a lawn mower, this would work for you. Go around your local neighborhood asking people if you can mow their lawns. You should charge between $10-$20 each mow, depending on the size of the lawn. If you could mow 30 lawns a month, you would be making $300-$600 a month. If you do a good job, your customers will want you to come back next time.
